About Us

What is MBORP

The Manitoba Burrowing Owl Recovery Program (MBORP) is non-profit, on-the-ground conservation program addressing the ongoing decline of endangered burrowing owls in southwestern Manitoba. The program is working towards recovery for the species through field and educational activities like reintroduction, surveys and monitoring, habitat enhancement and education.

We do not want to see burrowing owls disappear from Manitoba and Canada.

What are we doing?

Our program is working to recover the species through reintroductions, surveys and monitoring of wild owls and nests and habitat improvement through the installation of artificial nest burrows.

Annually, throughout the breeding season (May-August) we work with select private landowners to reintroduce burrowing owl pairs and young. We also engage landowners (cattle farmers) in burrowing owl conservation through the installation of artificial nest burrow installations.
